The Sword Have Seemingly Reunited for Levitation 2024
It’s been two years since stoner/doom metal outfit The Sword called it quits. At the time, we didn’t really get too much of a definitive answer as to why, only that after nearly 20 years as a band, songwriter and guitarist J.D. Cronise felt it was “time to bring The Sword’s long and storied career to a close.” As a fan of stoner metal in general, it was a massive bummer, but shit happens. Artists change, priorities change, and shit sometimes falls by the wayside.
But what happened earlier today was completely unexpected. It looks like The Sword are back? Not only that, but they’re playing Levitation 2024 in Austin, Texas on Sunday, November 3.
It’s a completely unexpected turn of events that has zero fanfare, no official statement from the band, and no explanation as to who’s in the band or what’s changed. As it stands, they’re just one band playing in a huge lineup of great acts for this year’s Levitation.
