Pelican Release New Ripper, “Cold Hope,” and Add New Tour Dates

As a great man once said, “Pelican fly! Come on, Pelican!”

Indeed, the revered quartet are ready to take flight again, with their first new album in six years, Nighttime Stories, set for for a June 7 release. Now they’ve released a new single, “Cold Hope,” and I think it’s even better than the first single, “Midnight and Mescaline.”It’s certainly the heavier and more downtrodden of the two tracks (the title ain’t for nuthin’). Of course, that doesn’t necessarily make it a better song, but if you’re like me — i.e., perpetually in a horrible mood — it will likely suit you a bit better. If those chuggy palm mutes in the section that starts around 3:25 don’t make you wanna stomp so hard your foot goes through the fuckin’ floor, something is wrong with you.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the band has also expanded their tour in support of Nighttime Stories… AND they’re teaming up with a Chicago brewery, Metropolitan, to make their own beer, which will be called — you guessed it! — “Cold Hope.” That comes out May 30; the band and the brewery will be throwing an album listening/beer release party that same day at Metropolitan Taproom. Details will be announced soon.

In the meantime, listen to “Cold Hope” the song below. Pre-order Nighttime Stories here. Get all the band’s currently-scheduled tour dates at the bottom of this post!!!
