Reunited Static-X’s Vocalist Speaks, Wants us to Call Him ‘Xer0’

We still don’t know the identity of the reunited Static-X’s touring vocalist for sure, although rumors about it being Edsel Dope from Dope continue to abound. In any case, we no longer have to call him “Static-X’s touring vocalist,” as the group apparently now refers to him ‘Xer0.’ Y’know. In case you weren’t sure this was a nu-metal band from the ’90s. I guess we should just be grateful we’re not meant to refer to him as ‘Layne Static.’

The revelation comes from Xer0’s first interview, which was conducted by Kerrang!.  You may recall that the poor dude will be performing in a Wayne Static wig and mask combo, which the band swears is not at all weird; in in the interview, Xer0 also tries to play this decision off as being totally normal:

“I’ve spent the last 20 years building my own identity and touring the world with my own band,. It didn’t feel right for my image or identity to be placed in the center of something that I wasn’t part of creating… It just felt like a perfect way to keep the focus on the four guys that made this great album and started this really cool band. After a few days of living with it, I decided to spike my hair up, just to see what it would look like with the mask on, and I was like, ‘Oh, FUCK.’ Let’s be honest: Wayne’s hair kind of became the visual identity of Static-X.”

Still seems pretty fucking strange to me, but hey, I’m not spending money to go see this show.

If this whole thing appeals to you despite being creepy AF, dates for the band’s upcoming Wisconsin Death Trip anniversary/reunion tour are here.
