Cave In are Teasing Something Called “Final Transmission”
With Cave In having lost bassist Caleb Scofield last year in a devastating car crash, it’d be understandable if the band decided to hang it up. The Caleb Scofield tribute shows they’ve been putting on have been special for both the band and fans alike (the one I attended in the band’s hometown of Boston was goddamn magical), and the members of the band are happily involved in other projects.
That said, it seems Cave In will bless the world with one more musical gift before ceasing to be an active unit… if we’re to take a recent hint at face value. Hydra Head, the band’s longtime label, posted a pair of images on Facebook last night with the band’s name and the words “Final Transmission” atop what could well be an album cover featuring the iconic satellite from Jupiter heading off into the universe. Neither the label or band has confirmed any of that to be true, and it’s worth noting that “final transmission” could also refer to Scofield’s final contributions to the band’s music. It could also refer to any number of other things.
While we wait to find out, we highly recommend catching one of the band’s upcoming performances if you can:
04/10 Berlin, GER – Bi Nuu (feat. Old Man Gloom & Bossk)
04/12 London, UK – Electric Ballroom (feat. Old Man Gloom & Bossk)
04/13 Tilburg, NET – 013 (‘Roadburn Festival‘)
06/22 Clisson, FRA – Hellfest Open Air
06/24 Vienna, AUT – Chelsea
06/25 Prague, CZE – Cave V lese
