Machine Head Done Auditioning New Members
The metal world has been on the edge of its seat waiting to see who joins Machine Head to fill the very large shoes of now-former members Dave McClain (drums) and Phil Demmel (guitar), who left the band last November. The good news is, it would appear the wait is almost over.
Metal Insider reports that Machine Head mastermind Robb Flynn recently did an Instagram livestream where he revealed that the band has been auditioning replacements for Demmel and McClain — and that those auditions concluded this past Saturday, March 23. Obviously, Flynn didn’t reveal the identities of the applicants, saying only that “you might not know some of these guys, some of you may,” but he did reveal which MH songs the musicians in question were required to learn for their auditions:
- “Locusts”
- “Old”
- “Imperium”
- “From This Day”
- “Halo”
- “Aesthetics of Hate”
- “This is the End”
Flynn also said that the candidates were encouraged to learn additional material, specifically praising one of them for having come in knowing “Take My Scars” and “Volatile” in addition to the songs listed above. Flynn concluded on an optimistic note:
“It’s been awesome, really good, in fact really confusing, don’t know where we are going, we got some thinking to do.”
Flynn apparently took off for a much-deserved vacation after the auditions, but assume McClain and Demmel’s successors will be named sometime in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, feel free to do some fantasy casting in the comments section.
