Nickelback’s Mike Kroeger is a Fan of Slayer, Gojira, Meshuggah and Animals as Leaders
Is left right, is up down, are your MetalSucks editors not SJWs?? What is happening???
Not long after the revelation that Devin Townsend and Chad Kroeger are now pals with Chad appearing on Devin’s upcoming album, Chad’s brother Mike, Nickelback’s bassist, has claimed in an interview with Wall of Sound that he and the other guys in the band are all huge metalheads.
I know what you’re thinking: claiming you’re a metalhead and actually being one are two entirely different things. But Kroeger goes on to prove it. After an admittedly goofy line about how “we all know everything about the Big Four” that comes off like an anxious teenager trying to peacock his coolness, the bassist goes on to explain he and his bandmates’ predilection for the heavy stuff:
“I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That’s where my heart lies. There are just never enough hours in the day to do everything, but let’s just say I wouldn’t count it out.”
He elaborates:
“I listen to bands like Meshuggah, Gojira, Lamb of God… and we became friends with those guys. Daniel [Adair, drums] and I nerd out on stuff they do, and as musicians, we love to listen to it. Have you ever listened to Animals as Leaders? I’ve never seen them play live, I’ve only seen what I can dig up on YouTube, and their newest record The Madness of Many is so heavy. I just cannot believe how sick it is, I love it. The freedom of expression is extraordinary and really inspirational. There are no boundaries, and that’s the kind of music I like.”
So there you have it! Nickelback = legit metalheads. Shit, Chad Kroeger even has his own Metal Archives entry now.
