Watch Ghost Frontman Tobias Forge’s First Ever Unmasked Video Interview
After years of speculation and rumors, Tobias Forge’s identity as Ghost’s frontman and leader was finally made public last year when four former members of the band brought a lawsuit against him. Since that time he’s done a number of audio-only and written interviews as himself as opposed to as the Papa/Cardinal character, including this one with Swedish radio last year (his first ever), but he hadn’t yet appeared on video as himself… until now.
iHeartRadio scored an interview with Forge at their NYC headquarters, and the nearly half-hour chat saw Forge cover such topics as his family, the band’s opening gig for Iron Maiden last year, being bullied as a kid, the future of Ghost’s storyline and more.
It’s interesting to note that even “unmasked” Forge is still quite costumed up, wearing a hat with a boa on it, a jacket (even though the interview takes place indoors), leather gloves, shades and a ridiculous mustache. He’s still portraying the image of rock star even off stage, which… is fine, he’s certainly not the first frontman to conduct himself in such a way and won’t be the last. It’s just that given the big to-do about this being an “unmasked” interview I’d expect it to be more down-to-earth, at least with a clear view of his face. Gotta keep up appearances, I suppose, and I reckon he finds a certain comfort in remaining somewhat anonymous after all these years behind a mask.
Watch below. The interview starts just before the 5:00 mark. Catch Ghost on the remainder of their North American tour right now; dates here.
