Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows Cleared for Vocal Cord Recovery
Avenged Sevenfold were forced to cancel their outdoor shed tour with Prophets of Rage this summer when vocalist M. Shadows was given doctor’s orders to rest his voice following a scary diagnosis of inflamed vocal cords. Fortunately he didn’t join Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach among those needing surgery to correct the issue, but I can’t imagine anything scarier for a professional vocalist than being told by a doctor that you’ve got to shut the fuck up for two months lest you risk permanent damage to your voice.
Shadows is now on the mend, and has said in a new interview with Loudwire that he’s ready to begin the recovery process following two months of no talking and singing. Here’s the relevant excerpt:
I know you were looking forward to the summer tour with Prophets of Rage and Three Days Grace this summer, as well as getting a chance to promote The Stage album even further. How are you coming along with your recovery?
“I got word today that my [vocal] cords are good to go and that I can start the recovery process. I did two months of no talking or singing and now I need to build it all back up. No damage was done so I’m grateful for that.”
Did you have to follow a specific diet or routine to help in your vocal recovery and do you know when you’ll be back and able to play or record again?
“I’m always on a diet for singing, also acid reflux pills and lots of water. I could probably start singing very soon but I’m going to take this recovery slow just to make sure everything is as strong as it can be. I’ll be ready to roll for the next record.”
Shadows goes on to express his condolences to Prophets of Rage and everyone else involved with the tour for the cancelation (“I feel terrible for those guys. I basically ruined everyone’s summer and that’s a tough thing to deal with.”), and elsewhere in the interview talks about the band’s forthcoming EP Black Reign (October 12th), which contains the four songs they wrote for the Call of Duty video game series.
