Sumac Release New Single “Attis’ Blade”
Sumac start your Hump Day with “Attis’ Blade,” the first single off their previously-announced new album, Love in Shadow. A press release calls the song “sprawling,” which is an adjective you see used in a lot of press releases, but in this instance is definitely not just hype: the track is nearly sixteen goddamn minutes long. As I type this, I’m in minute three, and I’m loving it so far, and I also feel like I’m still waiting for the song to really begin. Take that as you will.
As for the title, it’s either a reference to a character from Fallout or a mythological Greek figure who has some relationship to castration. I’m guessing it’s the latter but who knows, there are def some peeps out there who are wwwaaayyy into Fallout.
Listen to “Attis’ Blade” below. Love in Shadow comes out September 21 on Thrill Jockey, and can be pre-ordered here. The band goes on tour that same month; get dates here.
