Claudio Sanchez of Coheed & Cambria’s Hair Marriage Featured in the New York Times

Is getting married metal? While some don’t think so, plenty of folks see the act of swearing your entire existence to another as one of life’s most brutal milestones: an eternal pact compromising the autonomous soul for hugs, kisses and tax breaks.

Jokes aside, marraige still stands as mankind’s favorite way to prove one person loves another, for better or for worse. The New York Times runs a recurring feature called It’s No Secret, which highlights the adventures of married couples throughout their time together and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. The column recently featured Coheed & Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez and his wife, Chondra Echert Sanchez, who have been together for over eight years.

The couple met backstage at a concert in Jacksonville, FL when he was 24 and she was only 19.  “I didn’t know he was in the band,” Mrs. Sanchez said. “He’s devastatingly shy, but he had a few drinks so he was more talkative. There was this crazy incident at the venue,” she continued. “Someone called the police and everyone had to leave unexpectedly. He wouldn’t ask for my number so I asked for his.” He gave her his digits etched onto a styrofoam cup, and the rest is history.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez now have a child together and co-own Evil Ink, an independent comic book publishing company. The family embraces a creative, unconventional lifestyle, with Mrs. Sanchez and their son often joining Coheed & Cambria on tour. “We have a unity and an energy that’s unexplainable,” Mr. Sanchez expressed. “We’ve passed that down to our son.”
