Too Soon? Modtoid Man’s Best of 2018… So Far
Welp, Coheed and Cambria haven’t dropped their next album yet, and Sandrider’s newest effort is sitting pretty in July, so that basically leaves us with a lot of music fighting for third place in my book.
But what a list it is! From captivating soundscapes that give way to unrelenting rage (Rolo Tomassi), to the seamless melding of disparate genres (Zeal & Ardor), it’s been a wild-ass year for heavy music. Here’s some of the stuff that’s played in my ears while I’ve been deleting your unsavory comments:
Amorphis – Queen of Time (Nuclear Blast)
Boss Keloid – Melted on the Inch (Holy Roar)
Harakiri for the Sky – Arson (AOP)
Harm’s Way – Posthuman (Metal Blade)
Hated – Breathless Art (self-released)
Hooded Menace – Ossuarium Silhouettes Unhallowed (Season of Mist)
Khemmis – Desolation (20 Buck Spin)
King Witch – Under The Mountain (Listenable)
Orphaned Land – Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs (Century Media)
Night Verses – From The Gallery of Sleep (Equal Visions)
Thy Catafalque – Geometria (Season of Mist)
Ripped to Shreds – 埋葬 (“Mai-Zang”) (Night Rhythms Recordings)
Rolo Tomassi – Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It (Holy Roar)
Sleep – The Sciences (Third Man)
TesseracT – Sonder (Kscope)
Weedpecker – III (Stickman)
Zeal & Ardor – Stranger Fruit (MVKA)
