Thou Release Two New Songs, “The Only Law” and “The Changeling Prince”
Experimental metallers Thou announced earlier this spring that they’ll be releasing THREE new EPs this year. What’s more, they’ll be placing a coda on those by putting out a full-length album at the end of August. The album will not be a collection of the three previously released EPs, but a wholly separate piece of music.
The three EPs will each focus on a particular sound and will be released on different record labels, as follows:
The House Primordial (Raw Sugar Records, out now) – noisy drone
Inconsolable (Community Records. June 29th) – quiet acoustic
Rhea Sylvia (Deathwish, July 27th) – melodic grunge
The full-length will be called Magus and will incorporate all of those styles (mixed in with the band’s usual doom approach) and will be released by Sacred Bones Records.
Got all that? I know it’s a lot! But it’s a pretty cool (and very different) approach to releasing music. We should expect nothing less from this very prolific group of Baton Rouge, LA pioneers.
So: Thou just released two brand new songs from the above collection. “The Only Law” comes the Rhea Sylvia EP while “The Changeling Prince” comes from the full-length. I’m only just now listening to both tracks from the first time, but so far 1) the genre descriptions the band has given are totally accurate, and a fun exercise to indulge in as a listener, and 2) both are fucking great. Have at ’em below.
