Watch: Between the Buried and Me Perform “Big Riff” Live in Tribute to Caleb Scofield
Between the Buried and Me were one of the many bands who paid their respects via social media to Cave In, Old Man Gloom and Zozobra bassist Caleb Scofield shortly after he passed away in a car accident nearly two weeks ago.
But as far as I’m aware, BTBAM have now become the first band to take that tribute to the live performance space: at their show in Caleb’s home city of Boston on April 3rd, the band played a segment of Cave In’s seminal track “Big Riff” live. Equally as impressive as the band’s chilling rendition of the song is the fact is that BTBAM’s tour was already in progress when Scofield passed, meaning they had to learn the track on the fly or during sound-check. What’s more, The PRP tells us that the band took a cut of their merch sales that night and fielded tips to the tune of $1,200 to donate to the memorial fund that’s been set up for Caleb. It all amounts to an impressively stand-up act from a bunch of very, very classy men.
BTBAM have posted footage of their performance of “Big Riff” on Twitter, which you can watch below. I got chills the moment I pressed play that lasted through the whole video and I’m not ashamed to admit I welled up a bit. Amidst all the pain and confusion Caleb’s family must be experiencing, at least they can know the man made an absolutely monumental impact on a whole lot of people.
Our tribute to Caleb Scofield (Cave In). If you are able to donate, the memorial fund for his family is below. Rest In Peace brother.
