Cave In Bassist/Vocalist Caleb Scofield Dead at Age 39

Tragic news this afternoon: Caleb Scofield, bassist and vocalist for the renowned Massachusetts bands Cave In, Old Man Gloom and Zozobra was killed in a traffic accident yesterday, Wednesday, March 28. He was just 39.

The New Hampshire Union Leader reports that Scofield’s truck hit a concrete barrier at high speed, at which point it burst into flames and rolled over. The story goes on to reveal that “The vehicle, believed to be a silver truck, was so badly damaged in the crash and fire that authorities were unable to determine the identity or gender of the victim.” You can read more here, although be forewarned — it’s not the least bit pleasant.

It goes without saying that Scofield was far too young to die. And no one deserves to die in such a horrible way. This news is just… overwhelming.
