Maynard: New Tool Music is Not Coming Out This Summer
Hoping for that new Tool album ASAP? Not so fast. Though drummer Danny Carey previously issued a pledge that the album will come out in 2018, a new tweet by vocalist Maynard James Keenan indicates that we’ll have to wait until at least the fall.
A fall timeline certainly makes sense given we recently learned that lyrics are only just now being written, but anxious fans are gonna be anxious, and some may not fully understand all that goes into putting an album out and the time required to do so.
Maynard’s tweet came in response to a fan erroneously stating that both Carey and guitarist Adam Jones had said the album is “coming out this summer” (they never said that — only that it would come out this year):
Not. Coming out this summer. Not.

I wouldn’t put it past some overzealous conspiracy theorists to interpret this as meaning the album could come out SOONER than the summer. Carey did say he “hopes” it’s out before some festival gigs the band has in the spring, but qualified that with “It’s wishful thinking at this point. I actually think I said that this time last year.” I really don’t see a spring release happening, though, if lyrics are only just now coming in and studio work has yet to begin. But you never know!
