Track/Video Premiere: The Absence, “A Gift for the Obsessed”
We’ve been fans of The Absence for a veeeerrrrry long time. And who could blame us? They’ve been reliably pumping out top-notch melodic death metal since before MetalSucks even existed.
Those fuckers have made us wait seven years — seven! — for a new album, though. Despite having released two singles during that time span, that’s a helluva long time to wait! But thankfully the wait is over: The Absence are back with a new album, coming later this spring, and we’re pleased as punch to reveal its first single, “A Gift for the Obsessed,” to the world today in music video form.
Says vocalist Jamie Stewart,
“‘A Gift For the Obsessed’ embodies many of the dynamics that The Absence stand for as a whole: melody, brutality, speed, dexterity, cadence, etc. — a truly comprehensive and cohesive listening experience indeed! The title of the album/song refers to that very moment when any artist or creator makes something to the integral point of satisfaction — when your craft meets your obsession in furious culmination, and you are finally able to take a step back, if only for just a moment, completely fulfilled by the fruits of your artistic labor. It‘s one of the most maddening yet needed satisfactions in life — exorcism through creation.”
Couldn’t have said it any better ourselves; “A Gift for the Obsessed” is truly an amalgam of everything we’ve come to love about this band over the years.
A Gift For The Obsessed comes out on March 23rd with M-Theory Audio; pre-order here.
