Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones Used to Front a Punk Band Called Whizzy
There is an alternate reality in which Peter Dinklage is not an actor best known for Game of Thrones, but, perhaps, a singer best known for fronting The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Apparently, during a 2013 interview with Playboy, Peter Dinklage — the actor best known for playing ‘Tyrion Lannister’ on Game of Thrones — revealed this lil’ tidbit:
“I have a pretty big scar that runs from my neck to my eyebrow. I was in a band called Whizzy for many years in New York. We were this punk-funk-rap band. We played a show at CBGB, and I was jumping around onstage and got accidentally kneed in the temple. I was like Sid Vicious, just bleeding all over the stage. Blood was going everywhere. I just grabbed a dirty bar napkin and dabbed my head and went on with the show. We didn’t care much at the time about personal safety. We were smoking and drinking during our shows, and one time my bass player fell off the back of his amp because he passed out. It was one of those bands.”
Even given his love of prostitutes and wine, the thought of Tyrion “I Got Knocked Out Before the Fight Even Began” Lannister fronting such an extreme band seems almost unimaginable. Luckily, we now have photographic evidence, thanks to former Whizzy drummer Jimmy Angelina and this Argentinian Facebook page (don’t ask ’cause I don’t know):
So, uh… they don’t really look like “one of those bands,” but the ’90s really weren’t great for anyone’s sense of fashion (snap bracelets notwithstanding, natch), so who knows.
Unfortunately, recordings of Whizzy have yet to be unearthed. If you happen to be sitting on any don’t be greedy… let those bad boys out into the world! I wanna know if it’s as good as DJ Hodor.
