Arch Enemy Slow Shit Down on New Song “The Eagle Flies Alone”
I suspect this will be an unpopular opinion, but my favorite Arch Enemy song of all time is “Savage Messiah,” from 2001’s Wages of Sin. Obviously, Michael Amott has made his career writing epic, tasty melodeath riffs… but when those riffs are slowed down a bit and their groove is really allowed to take center stage, well, they become even more epic and tasty. Of course, I love AE’s faster shit, too, but… this song just really hits my musical G-spot, hard.
So you can imagine how happy I am that the band’s new single, “The Eagle Flies Alone,” is very much in the tradition of “Savage Messiah.” The band’s new album, Will to Power, is really good from start to finish… but this song really gets to me. If you can listen to it without tapping your foot or bopping your head, you’re a stronger person than I am.
