MS Mansion resident Thy Art is Murder expert Axl Rosenberg is still sleeping — I just winged on over to the Axl Annex and found him cuddled up with his vaporizer in one hand and his dog in the other — so this morning you get ol’ Papa Vince’s slightly more balanced take on the new Thy Art is Murder single, the first from their forthcoming new album.

Observations:

  1. It deathcores. It has blasts and chugs and a breakdown in the middle and general deathcore things throughout. If you enjoy those, you’ll probably like it.
  2. The intro riff is actually pretty cool — it’s got that Decapitated groove/swing to it (Decapitated do it better, of course) — but fails to go anywhere all that interesting.
  3. The song is serviceable but ultimately mediocre. Nothing about it screams, “THIS is what we do better than any of the other bands in this crowded genre.” That’s always been the issue with this band, right?
  4. It sounds good. Will Putney produced it, so duh.
  5. People will probably love it since they seem to go apeshit for this band for some reason. The masses love mediocrity.

Check out “Slaves Beyond Death” below. Dear Desolation comes out on August 18th via Nuclear Blast and can be pre-ordered here.

Thy Art is Murder will be on a sweet tour in the States later this summer and fall with Decapitated, Fallujah and Ghost Bath. Dates under the embed.
