Primitive Man Release Two New Songs + Black Sabbath and Crowbar Covers
Primitive Man might just be the heaviest band going today. That’s open for debate, obviously, but they’re certainly up there. Their bludgeoningly brutal, downtuned doomy onslaught hits a sweet spot that few others can touch.
Their new two-song release Fear/A Life of Turmoil, then, showcases a completely different side of the band. Both tracks stretch over 20 minutes long and consist of mostly ambient noise; there’s nary a distorted guitar or drum to be heard. I can’t say this is really what I want to hear from Primitive Man, but it’s a look into the inner-workings of the members’ minds… I guess.
Meanwhile, the band’s also posted covers of Black Sabbath’s “Sweet Leaf” and Crowbar’s “Suffering Brings Wisdom.” Both were originally released in 2014, but are now on Primitive Man’s own Bandcamp for the first time. The cover of “Sweet Leaf” in particular… oh man, so fucking devastating! This is why I listen to Primitive Man.
