A Perfect Circle Poised to Release New Album Before Tool
A Perfect Circle have signed with BMG after releasing their first three albums on Virgin. That’s not really interesting in and of itself, but with the news comes guitarist/songwriter Billy Howerdel’s assurance that there will be new music from A Perfect Circle this year. And sure, the band could release one song on a soundtrack or something and technically Howerdel wouldn’t be lying, but chances are he means they’re gonna release a new album.
Meanwhile, we still have no fucking clue when Tool’s new album is coming out.
In other words, it’s a reasonably safe bet that we’re gonna get a new APC album before we get a new Tool album.
I know that shouldn’t bug me. Other than sharing a singer, the two bands have nothing to do with one another. It’s not Howerdel’s fault that he got his shit together first. Besides, he had a few years’ lead time on Tool: the last album of new APC material was Thirteenth Step, which came out in 2003, while Tool’s last release, 10,000 Days, came out in 2006. And A Perfect Circle are swell, and their new album may be terrific.
But life isn’t fair, and no one will ever think about A Perfect Circle without also thinking about Tool, save for maybe that one guy who swears he thinks APC is better than Tool (and no one listens to that idiot anyway). So yeah it’s hard not to react to this news with an aggressive “Wow congrats guys HEY MAYNARD WHAT THE FUCK?!?!”
Okay I’m done whining now.
