Kanye West Wore a Testament T-Shirt, Alex Skolnick is Appalled

Kanye West is no stranger to the metal aesthetic: in the past few years he’s been photographed wearing a Megadeth shirt, he aped Metallica and Judas Priest for his new “Yeezus” logo, and our all-time favorite, he wore these vaguely and generically “metal” sweatpants.

I’ve stopped giving a shit about mainstream celebrities wearing metal clothes — it seems to be in fashion right now, and is hardly worth getting angry about — but Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick sure had a lot to say when the below pictures of Kanye sporting a Testament t-shirt surfaced yesterday on The Daily Mail. Of course it’s entirely possible Skolnick is taking the piss for the sake of drama; he seems like the kind of fellow that would be able to make light of the hilarity of a situation like this one.

Blabbermouth reports that Skolnick posted the following message somewhere, although they didn’t link their source, and we can’t find it:

Oh no he didn’t! Wait, yes he did… Goodness gracious. This whole decrepit clan must have picked up a pile of old concert t-shirts (the same pile Kourtney K’s Slayer shirt came from) which have somehow become a ‘thing’ in trendy fashion (who’d have thought?!!). Inconceivable that any of these pop-culture vultures know who the heck any of the bands are. My guess is he thinks it’s a religious group (not the first time that’s happened). That is, if he thinks at all, which lately seems unlikely. And I thought this time period couldn’t get any weirder…

The appearance marks the first time West has been seen in public since his hospitalization following a mental breakdown while on tour last month. It’s also the first time he and Kim Kardashian have been seen together since the latter was robbed at a hotel in France in September. The couple was enjoying a dinner out in Santa Monica, CA last night.

Hey, look, maybe Kanye’s a huge Testament fan! It’s possible. Perhaps he got down with The New Order while getting right in the hospital. But, even if not… meh, whatever. Metal is a fashion symbol now, like it or not, which to me doesn’t really dilute its message or potency one bit.
