Exclusive Music Video Premiere: Venom Prison, “Devoid”
Adjectives that describe death metal can be hit or miss, but in the case of the UK’s Venom Prison — with whom we were not previously familiar upon being approached about a premiere — the word “murderous” hit the nail square on the fucking head.
“Devoid,” from their forthcoming album Animus, is equal parts Entombed HM-2 worship, atmospheric black metal harmonics, Morbid Angel stomp-and-groove, and Cannibal Corpse hammer-on and pull-off riffs. It goes hard in the paint from start to finish, but doesn’t follow a standard song structure at all; there’s not a single repeated musical theme through the track’s nearly four minutes. It’s nasty. Or, if you will, murderous.
Check out the music video below. Venom Prison’s debut full-length Animus will be out on October 14 (pre-order) and was recorded by Tom Dring (Dragged into Sunlight, Electric Wizard).
