“Crucifixion”: Supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra (Alice in Chains, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon) Finally Unveil Music

We’ve been hearing about Giraffe Tongue Orchestra since before I had pubes. Okay, so maybe not that long, but it has been a long, long time in the works, and I’m sure more than a few of us wondered if it would ever actually see the light of day.

Well… it looks like it will! The band — which features The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman, Mastodon’s Brent Hind, Alice in Chains’ William DuVall, and others — has, at last, released a song for public consumption: “Crucifixion” made its debut this weekend on the BBC.

So how is it? I dig it! You can definitely hear the roots of Weinman and Hinds’ respective bands, but it’s not exactly like either of those bands, and DuVall brings a whole new element to it. DuVall also takes the opportunity to prove he’s more than just Layne Staley’s fill-in; not only does he sound really great here, but if I didn’t know it was him, I never would have guessed. I mean that as a compliment.

ANYWAY, check out the track via the below player (skip to 4:42 unless you also wanna listen to an interview with Weinman) and decide for yourself. The band’s debut album, Broken Lines, will be released September 23 on Weinman’s own Party Smasher Inc.
