Whitechapel Get Funky on Mark of the Blade Title Track
When Whitechapel recently revealed that their new album, Mark of the Blade, would feature clean vocals, The Internet, rather predictably, lost its shit like Richard Christy at a concert. As a result, I, a worshipper of The Great Troll, was very hoping the album’s lead single would be an outright ballad. I mean just, like, a straight-up Luther Vandross song.
Unfortunately, the just-released title track from Mark of the Blade has no clean vocals. It is, however, quite different from other Whitechapel songs: vocalist Phil Bozeman’s delivery is just this side of rapping. The whole song, in fact, kinda reminds me of an even-heavier version of Slipknot’s “Spit it Out.”
Truth be told, I didn’t really like it at first, but it grew on me after a few listens. Interesting, right? Maybe I’ll come to appreciate that Unlocking the Truth song eventually.
Check out the song below. Mark of the Blade comes out June 24 on Metal Blade. Pre-order it here.
