Hell Yes, There’s A New Wayfarer Album On The Way
When I got to Denver, I expected more straightforward black metal. In my New Yorker mind, the mountains of Colorado would be filled with Satan-worshipping weirdos who take solace in the snowy winters. But the truth is that Colorado is more frontier than straight-up forest, and the sheer amount of weed available to people here definitely pushes the metal in more of a crunchy, doom metal direction (no shade towards that, of course — Khemmis slay). Still, I was hoping for something darker, more at touch with nature’s bad side.
Then I discovered Wayfarer, and man, are they doing Colorado black metal right. Their music is a perfect expression of the earth out here–sweeping and inspiring while still mighty and destructive, deep and beautiful one moment, hostile and unforgiving the next. Immediately, I wanted more from this band.
And thankfully, we’re going to get it! Last week, Wayfarer announced their new album, Old Souls, on June 17th via Prosthetic. The record was recorded at Flatline Audio and mixed by the great Dave Otero (who also produced Khemmis’ Absolution and Cobalt’s latest record). The band has also released the above cover art, and hooooly shit, what an awesome image. The sweeping dunes, the ragged demon with a dreamcatcher for a head…hot damn, this is going to be good.
Definitely check out the band’s last album, Children of the Iron Age, embedded below, and keep up with their Bandcamp and Facebook.
