Fuck Yeah, Grim Feast!
I trust Black Dahlia Murder frontman Trevor Strnad when it comes to music. It obviously helps that his band totally rips, he was a total G when I met him at last year’s Hell’s Headbash, and much like me, he smokes a lot of weed. But more so, his Metal Injection column, ‘The Obituarist,’ is always introducing me to killer new bands I’d have probably never heard of otherwise.
For me, the band of note from his last column was Grim Feast from Hamilton, Ohio. The band’s new album, Masturbatory Afterlife, is an awesome death metal hybrid. At its heart is gore metal, yes, and fans of Impaled, Malignancy, and early Fetid Zombie will find stuff to love here. But there’s also a lot of cool, riffy, diabolical moments within the music that make me think of bands like Mutant Supremacy and Portland’s Infernus. Make no mistake, this stuff definitely resides within its niche–there are no Amon Amarth or Meshuggah influences here–but it’s surprisingly dynamic for what it is
Check out “Satanic Gore Majick” below and get grody. If you dig it, check out the whole album at Grim Feast’s Bandcamp.
