Watch The Ghost Inside’s Andrew Tkaczyk Play Drums for the First Time Since the Bus Accident
The Ghost Inside drummer Andrew Tkaczyk has been public about his rehabilitation from the terrible bus crash that cost him his leg. A couple of weeks ago, he posted a video on Instagram of him standing on one foot, and yesterday he posted a video of him playing drums for the first time.
Check it out:
I hope you weren’t expecting an insane round of blast beats and thrash gallops, and if you were, well, don’t be an idiot. The dude is still recovering from a lost leg. I don’t know if I’d ever be able to get behind the kit again, but this dude is manning up on a massive scale.
One question that comes to my mind is whether or not Andrew will have some sort of special kit built for him, a la that of Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen. Does he even need one? I’ve never played drums, but it seems like two legs are pretty necessary to play a typical kit. It’ll be interesting to see how Tkaczyk deals with the loss of a limb.
Anyway: kudos to Andrew for being so in touch with his fans, and kudos to him for getting back on the drums. Thankfully, he has until 2017 before he has to worry about playing to the crowds at Warped Tour, so there’s plenty of time for him to get back to his previous skill level.
