Video: The Scissorfight Reunion is Officially Underway, and it is Glorious
My initial excitement about the pending reunion of Scissorfight — probably the best metal band ever to come from New Hampshire’s fiery, red-necked belly — was tempered by the realization that their iconic, beer-bellied, big-bearded frontman Ironlung would not be participating. The riffs would always live on, but without Ironlung it seemed the soul of the band had been gutted.
But as I sit here watching video of the band’s show this past weekend in Manchester, NH — their first performance in ten years — I stand corrected, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Doug Aubin, the band’s new vocalist, does a helluva job picking up where Ironlung left off; it’s as if the rest of the dudes decided they needed another guy with a huge beard and a deep bellow, and combed every crevice of the White Mountains until they found their man. I actually got chills when the honky-tonk riff that kicks off the chorus of “Acid for Blood” kicks in.
So yeah, bring this shit out on the road, guys! The reunited Scissorfight — who also added Rick Orcutt on drums — have six shows scheduled around New England this spring and summer, but clearly that’s not enough. Do they even know the devastation and happiness they’d reign upon Brooklyn if they booked a show here? I’ll bet they don’t. Shit, I might have to book the damn thing myself.
