Video: Disturbed Ruin Simon & Garfunkel and Conan O’Brien in One Fell Swoop

Disturbed covered Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” on their most recent album, and as was the case when they covered “Land of Confusion” by Genesis some years back, their fans are going totally gaga for it. Which makes sense, because these songs were composed by actual songwriters who know what the fuck they’re doing, so even in Disturbified form, they’re better than most Disturbed songs (and by “most,” I mean “all”). I’d wager a good chunk of the fans don’t even realize they’re covers.

So: Disturbed recently appeared on Conan O’Brien’s show to perform this “Sound of Silence” cover; I suspect they were booked by secret NBC operatives attempting to give the impression that the network was right to fuck over Conan in 2010. They may have succeeded, too, because unfortunately, Mr. O’Brien didn’t have the good sense to text within David Draiman’s eyeline, so the band actually completed their performance.

Below, watch the best use of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” in recent memory. Also, the Disturbed performance.
