Black Metal Documentary Blackhearts Coming Soon
The film industry has been very good to metal over the last few years. On the indie circuit there was Metalhead, the Icelandic film about a young, female metalhead struggling with inner turmoil, and, of course, Heavy Metal in Baghdad, the story of Acrassicauda, (then) Iraq’s only heavy metal band. Metal even made it into the mainstream recently in The Big Short, in which the film’s protagonist — a socially awkward but brilliant hedge fund manager portrayed by Christian Bale — listens to heavy metal loudly in his office and plays drums along to Metallica and others to vent steam. I’m sure I’m leaving out several metal films, but those are the ones that immediately popped into my head.
And now we get yet another! What did we do to deserve such riches? Here’s the description of Blackhearts, a documentary, that’ll premiere at CIMMFest in Chicago on April 15th, from the film’s official website:
BLACKHEARTS follows three black metal diehard fans from Colombia, Iran and Greece as they risk their life, end up in jail and sell their soul to Satan as they persuade the dream of bringing their band to the unholy birthplace of black metal — Norway.
It’s an idea that sounds all too familiar — “If only I move to City X, the epicenter of <thing I love>, I’ll be sure to make it big!” We can all relate. But things never go as planned, especially when it comes to following one’s dreams.
While the concept sounds fascinating on its own, the trailer really brings the idea to life by showing the tone and pace of the film. Take a look below and stay tuned to the Blackhearts website for more release info.
