Video: The Ghost Inside Drummer’s Rehabilitation Process After Losing Leg in Bus Crash
In the following video, The Ghost Inside drummer Andrew Tkaczyk recounts his vague memories from the band’s November bus crash: being shaken awake, looking down and seeing his leg badly damaged, being airlifted out… and then, fast forward 10 days, awakening from a medically induced coma to his new reality as an amputee.
I cannot image. Can. Not. The horror.
But, if this video is any indication, Tkaczyk has approached the rehabilitation process with an incredibly positive attitude. The video — put together by the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Tkaczyk has been recovering — details the rehabilitation process, including learning to walk again, being fit for a prosthesis, and interviews with several of the doctors and nurses treating him, including one who is himself a drummer.
It’s a remarkably uplifting video, much needed after an incident that can only be described as tragic. Watch below.
