Watch: Greenleaf Nets “A Million Fireflies” (NSFW)
Greenleaf appeared on our radar two Januarys ago via Trails & Passes, one of a glut of eye-opening 2014 releases from the same tiny label. Dotting the line between heavy psych and stoner metal, these half-dozen gems made you try to pinpoint the last time that one label’s entire year of releases made it to your speakers. And it’s a huge compliment to say that the instantly catchy T&P was among their best.
The album’s authors no longer fit in that context, however. They’ve moved to a bigger label whose roster is similarly rich with great fuzzy acts that come from a cooler dimension’s 1970s. That is, even by the decade’s end, rock music was pretty new; imagine if its best artists could view and process Led Zeppelin’s canon and all the hook technology since, and then make their albums in the 1970s vibe — also with the aid of 2015-level weed and visuals. That’s Greenleaf, who returns in February with Rise Above The Meadow. Awesome new video “A Million Fireflies” below (via High Times).
Greenleaf’s Rise Above The Meadow is out February 26 via Napalm. Get it here and here.
