Poll: Are the New Songs by Trapt and Drowning Pool Meant to Be Taken Seriously?

Nu-metal stalwarts Crapt and Drowning Fool have both released new singles, and they’re each so incredibly ridiculous that I’m thinking they have to be a joke. They just have to be. No grown men would release these songs with the intention of anyone taking them seriously… right?

I mean, take Crapt’s “It’s Over.” I’m guessing the song was first conceived in 1998 and only released now for some reason. That would be droll enough, but the video only accentuates the comedy: it primarily focuses on Matt Heafy’s older, less talented brother, who stands in front of Sum-41 making silly faces and emoting with hands, wearing Michael Jackson’s coat from the Thriller video all the while.

Alas, Drowning Pool’s “By the Blood” does not feature any visual accompaniment (yet), but I can’t even imagine people who bought Sinner in 2001 digging this. It sounds like a Hellyeah tribute band tried to write their own material. Their sound is the very definition of “outta gas.”

So… what do you think? Were either of these songs meant to be taken the least bit seriously, or are the bands in on the joke???
