God Punishes For Today for Blatant Homophobia with Poor Album Sales

By any measure, 7,000 copies is a very good first week album sales number in today’s metal scene. #67 is also a very respectable chart position, so For Today probably aren’t too bummed about the performance of their new record Wake.

Still, it’s impossible to resist poking fun at For Today given their outspoken homophobic ways. Especially when their prior album scanned 14,700 and slotted them at #15. The one before that, 2010’s Breaker, landed at #54 with 7,400 sold first week.

That’s quite a drop. Where’s God now, guys? Is it all part of his master plan? In which he also smites all fags and sends them to burn in hell where there are no stores at which to buy the new For Today album?

Perhaps the lesson here is that the old “there’s no such thing as bad press” saying doesn’t hold true in extreme cases of bigotry. It could also be that generic 4th-gen metalcore is — finally, mercifully — finished.

Orrrr it could just be that the very fine folks at Nuclear Blast couldn’t do quite as good of a job pretending to like this band as the equally fine folks at Razor and Tie once did. I don’t fault them at all for it.
