Sign This Petition to Get Metalocalypse Back on the Air!
The countdown is over, and now we know what all the fuss is about: Metalocalypse show creator Brendon Small has launched a massive campaign to help get the show back on the air for its fifth and final season!
Earlier this year we learned that Adult Swim had decided not to produce any new episodes of Metalocalypse despite the storyline not being over. With Hulu owning the streaming rights to the first four seasons, Small revealed in an interview last month that the onus would be on them to shoulder the budget of producing new episodes, but that Adult Swim’s cooperation would be needed as well to allow it to happen:
Here’s all that I know: I have a final story I really like, and I think since Hulu currently has a license for the streaming rights I believe that would be a good place for the final story. If they were to partner with Adult Swim, then maybe we’d have a place for the shows that still have a strong audience that the network can no longer afford. Get on Twitter or Facebook and tell Hulu how much you love “Metalocalypse” and who knows what’ll happen?
So where does that leave us? Small has launched MetalocalypeNow, at which fans of the show and Dethklok are encouraged to Tweet (positively!) at Hulu and Adult Swim that they want the show back, as well as sign a petition. That petition is already at more than 31,000 signers of its goal of 35,000, while the hashtag #metalocalypsenow is making waves on Twitter, having been picked up by the likes of Kirk Hammett, Scott Ian, Brian Slagel, Misha Mansoor, Brian Posehn and hundreds of ordinary layfolk like you and me.
Has this thing got legs? It certainly seems like it. We’ll know soon whether it’s enough to convince the bigwigs at Hulu and Adult Swim to take action.
Chuck and Godless interviewed Small about the MetalocalypseNow! campaign on a special edition of the MetalSucks Podcast that came out yesterday. Stream it below.
