Listen to Shining’s New BlackJazzterpiece “Last Day”
Who’s stoked for Shining’s forthcoming album International Blackjazz Society? Me me me me me!
The first track we heard from the album, “The Last Stand” — and its accompanying music video — was freakin’ awesome, the Norwegian blackjazz pioneers/masters at their best. Now they’re back with “Last Day,” a decidedly more up-tempo number that showcases Shining at their heaviest. Saxophone plays less of a central role in this song than of the band’s others, and there aren’t really any elements of black metal either… so “blackjazz” is perhaps a tad misleading in this case (although that mid-song keyboard and saxophone freakout is pretty out there!). But who cares? This track goes hard, and the chorus is catchy as hell. It almost reminds me of some latter day Nine Inch Nails song or something.
International Blackjazz Society comes out on October 23rd via Spinefarm and can be pre-ordered here.
