Khemmis Want To See The World “Torn Asunder”
When I first moved to Denver earlier this year, I began to notice Khemmis’ logo on concert flyers here and there. Soon after, bartenders and venue staff began talking about them. I’d never heard of the band, but I made a note to listen to their material should I get the chance.
Well, The Deciblog just posted a new track from the band’s upcoming 20 Buck Spin debut Absolution, and I’m kicking myself for not going to every show I saw advertised. “Torn Asunder” has got just enough stoner doom to be listenable but not pretentious, and it also packs a nasty, sludgy ending. Too often, bands are dead set on progressive or brutal; it’s cool to hear Khemmis doing such a good job at being both.
(Plus, can we talk about that cover? Illustrated by Sam Turner, who has done art for Speedwolf and Tauntaun among others, this shit is straight Frank Frazetta. Every time a band has a stupid Photoshopped album cover of a bunch of paint-spatters and churches, remember that they could’ve hired Sam Turner but chose to suck instead)
Anyway, listen to Khemmis, and then go see them. They’re playing the TRVE Brewing anniversary show at the Marquis Theater on 6/20 and an album release show at Hi-Dive on 8/1, both in Denver.
