New Supergroup with Chris Broderick, Shawn Drover, Matt Bachand and Henry Derek Announces Name, Label
After a two-month build-up, former Megadeth members Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover have finally started to reveal some substantial details about their project with bassist Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall) and vocalist Henry Derek (ex-Scar the Martyr): specifically, that it will be called Act of Defiance, that Zeuss is producing their debut album, and that said debut album will be out sometime this summer on Metal Blade.
They’ve also released a snippet of a song, “Throwback,” which is exactly what you wanna call the debut song by a new band. It’s hard to judge a song based on a sample that’s less than two minutes long (although you could play like three grindcore albums during that same amount of time), but I’ll say this: I dig everything from the forty-four second mark on. That half of the sample is super thrashy and makes me wanna get up n’ circle pit. Everything before it sounds much more in the vein of early-aughts Panteracore, and not especially awesome Panteracore, either. But maybe it works in the larger context of the entire song?
Check out the “Throwback” sample below. You’ll know the specific release date for Act of Defiance’s debut album when we do. In the meantime, you can keep up with the band on Facebook.
