Faith No More Hint at New Album in 2015… Again
We’ve been through this rigamarole enough times to know the deal: when a long-dormant band starts dropping hints that they’ll be releasing new music, it means they’ll be releasing new music. Especially if they reunited and they’ve been playing live shows together. Exhibit A, B, C and D: Carcass, At the Gates, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden.
So at this point I think it’s pretty safe to say we’ll be getting new Faith No More music in 2015. In May they launched a Twitter account out of nowhere. In July they played two brand new songs live. And today, via their newly christened Twitter home, they dropped this:
The Reunion Tour is over; in 2015 things are going to change.
— Faith No More (@FaithNoMore) August 19, 2014
That’s not even very subtle: a new album is on the way.
I think the question now is not “when,” but “how will it be?” We’ve gone on record at MetalSucks as being skeptical about reunion albums in general, but the new rule seems to be that the first reunion album — the one that contains only the best songs from 15-20 years’ worth of writing — can be incredibly solid, even great (unless you’re Soundgarden). So… should we be optimistic that FNM 2k15 will blow our collective noses off like Angel Dust did when we first heard it way back when? I’m not ready to make that proclamation yet, but I’m cautiously optimistic it’ll at least be worthy of the band’s legacy.
