Burzum Banned on eBay
The government of France has told Varg Vikernes that they aren’t okay with him posting his usual bigoted rhetoric on the internet. Now eBay has followed suit.
A reader who spoke to MetalSucks on the condition of anonymity recently tipped us off that Burzum has been banned by the popular online auctioneer. When said reader recently tried to list two Burzum releases for sale on the site, he was met with the following denial (click to enlarge):
The reader then called eBay support to confirm, and it’s true: as of last week, you can no longer sell Burzum items on eBay, due to Varg Vikernes’ “history of violence.” It will take some time for the company to completely filter out all Burzum offerings — meaning, for the time being, you can still find Burzum items for sale on the site. But that won’t be the case for long. Sellers who have sold Burzum items in the past (such as the MetalSucks reader who alerted us to this development) are apparently being filtered out first, I guess for the sake of ease, but you can expect eBay to be 100% Burzumless sometime in the not-too-distant future.
Of course, it’s the 21st century, and you can find pretty much ANYTHING on the internet — so interested parties shouldn’t have a hard time continuing to buy and sell Burzum items online (eBurzum.com?). Still, this is an interesting development. I wonder if any other metal artists will be banned for having a history of violence. Guess we’ll have to wait and see…
