The Zenith Passage Take You Into “Simulated Reality”
You guys oughtta be familiar with The Zenith Passage — quite a few of you emailed us about their Cosmic Dissonance EP in 2013, so much so that we decided to get off our asses and finally check the band out. And you were right! The Californian tech-death band displayed quite the knack for good songwriting amidst all the weedily-weedily technical stuff. Think: The Faceless, Fallujah, Soreption, Gorod, etc.
Since then the band’s signed with Unique Leader Records, and they’ll be releasing their first full-length album at some point in 2015. In the meantime we get a pre-production demo of a track called “Simulated Reality,” and it’s the bees knees: the Faceless influence is certainly very heavy with this one — the guitar phrasing, harmonic choices and song structure could easily have come from the hands of Michael Keene — but there are enough unique ideas here too to keep things interesting, and the vocoder-soaked chorus is certainly its own beast. Check it out:
