Kirk Hammett Returns to Exodus (Kinda)
Exodus’ new album, Blood In, Blood Out, is gonna be a big one for the band: not only will it feature the return of vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, but it will also feature the return of guitarist Kirk Hammett… sort of: Hammett tells Rolling Stone that he contributes a (presumably wah-heavy) guest solo to a song entitled “Salt the Wound,” which will be the first time he’s recorded with the band since their 1982 demo. Says Hammett of the solo:
“I play a pretty cool solo, and then Gary [Holt] comes in and plays another solo, and you know what? I listened to that and thought, ‘Wow, it’s 1982 all over again and here we are, Gary and I are trying to cut each other’s heads off with our guitar solos.’ Nothing has changed much in the last 30 years. I love it. I love those guys. I’ve only known them for most of my life, so I’m really happy that I finally got to record with them.”
Just as historic: this will be, to the best of my knowledge, the first time a member of Metallica has recorded with a member of Slayer (actually, it might be the first time any two members of Big Four bands have recorded together, period). I mean, it’s obviously not for a ‘Tallica or Slayer album, and neither Hammett nor Holt were founding members of those bands… but still! It’s a thing!
Blood In, Blood Out should be released later this year on Nuclear Blast. In the meantime… Hammett performed with Exodus at his Fear FestEVIL (facepalm) this past weekend; you can check out footage from that show below, courtesy of Metal Injection:
