Bigots Have Hacked Mastodon’s Twitter Account (NSFW)
It would appear that someone or someones with a, er, less-than-tolerant worldview has hacked Mastodon’s Twitter account. Clan Vv3, which Urban Dictionary tells me is “a hacking group… [that] specialize in hijacking celebrity twitter accounts and flooding them with ‘racist and hateful’ messages,” took control of the account last night, and has since been sending out some deeply disgusting drek. So (HIGHLY OFFENSIVE) examples follow:

GOD FUCKING HATES NIGGERS LOL.

FAGGOTS GETTING SHOT DOWN.

Somewhat oddly, it would also seem that Mastodon — or whomever it is that runs Mastodon’s Twitter account — is/are still sending out legitimate messages as well:

I’m not entirely clear why, if they still have some access to the account, Mastodon has yet to delete these tweets. In the case of MetalSucks, our Facebook and Twitter accounts are linked, so whatever we post on FB also shows up on Twitter; I thought this might be what’s going on with Mastodon, too, but a quick glance at their Facebook page shows this isn’t the case.
ANYWAY, presumably this will all be cleared up soon. In the meantime, can anyone help me figure out the point of Clan Vv3’s little “prank”? They can’t think they’re doing anything to actually hurt the band and/or enlist other bigots to their cause — Mastodon fans will immediately realize something is amiss (no one is going to accuse the band of actually being racist), and impressionable young admirers won’t think, “Oh, Mastodon hate the blacks and the Jews and the gays, I should hate the blacks and the Jews and gays, too.” Clan Vv3’s actions might be the very definition of “pointless trolling.”
