Listen to the First New Faith No More Songs in 17 Years!
UPDATE, 10:16am EDT: Reader Brandon L. reminds us that Faith No More played a new song called “Matador” live in Brazil in 2011, meaning these two technically aren’t the first new ones in seventeen years… still, pretty momentous, wethinks.
Original Post:
Talk about serendipity: on Thursday evening after the MetalSucks Mansion shut its gates for the weekend, Axl and I blasted Faith No More’s Angel Dust to ring in the holiday weekend with a night of too-heavy drinking. Less than 24 hours later the band played two brand new songs at London’s Hyde Park (Happy July 4th, Brits!) — their first since 1997’s Album of the Year — then did so so again the next night in Gdynia, Poland. The metal webernets remained broken pretty much all weekend as a result.
Plenty of fan-filmed versions of the two songs — possibly titled “Leader of Men” and “Motherfucker on the Phone” — have been posted online since.
I can’t find it now, but I’m more than certain that Axl and I have gone on record as saying new Faith No More music would be a bad idea because of the risk of tarnishing their incredible legacy. But Carcass did it, Alice in Chains did it… could Faith No More do it too? These songs do sound pretty sweet, I gotta admit, unmistakably FNM. And the band members look really stoked to be playing them live.
These videos have the best audio of any I’ve seen. Check ’em out and see what you think.
