Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office: GWAR’s Dave Brockie Died of An Accidental Heroin Overdose

“Sucks” doesn’t even begin to cover this.

WTVR reports that the Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office has officially cited an accidental heroin overdose as the cause of death of GWAR vocalist Dave Brockie (a.k.a. “Oderus Urungus”) in March. We knew this was a possibility, but we’d be hoping against hope that Brockie died from circumstances which were less avoidable.

Regardless, the loss of Brockie is one which has impacted the metal world immeasurably. This should go without saying, but the unfortunate manner in which Brockie died is not cause to piss on Brockie’s grave.

GWAR are still scheduled to headline the fifth annual GWAR-B-Q on August 16 at Hadad’s Water Park in Richmond, VA. A public memorial for Brockie on will be held one day prior, on August 15, from 4-7 pm Hadad’s Lake. It will include a viking funeral pyre for Oderus! A fitting send off if ever there was one.
