Nearly Four Minutes of New Devin Townsend Music For You!
A lot of bands these days film “in the studio” videos and then wait to release them until months later in an effort to get the hype machine churning immediately in advance of their new album release. Not that this is always the case, but sometimes that practice strikes me as disingenuous: bands acting as if they’re IN THE STUDIO RIGHT NOW! when in fact the sessions took place months ago. I mean, I get it, but still.
But Devin Townsend doesn’t do that, nosiree. Just Monday we learned that drum-tracking had been completed for Z2, and today we get some clips of the man himself laying down guitars. Not that getting a real-time studio look from Devin is surprising — he’s always been incredibly transparent about his studio process and, well, pretty much everything else he does, too — but there’s something about the real NOW-ness of these videos that’s exciting. Not sure whether these tunes are from the Z2 or Devin Townsend Project discs of what will eventually be a double album, but either way they sound promising. Check out the tracklist for the set here.
