Listen to Two Black Metal Covers of Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger’s Internet-Breaking Disaster “Hello Kitty”
Now that you’d had a chance to sit with Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger’s Internet-breaking song “Hello Kitty” for a few days and you’ve presumably read all the backlash… what do we think? Could Avril n’ Chad have really put such a horrible and half-baked idea into the world in earnest, or was the whole “The band is pulling the videos down! Watch it while you still can!” thing — not to mention the ludicrous video/song concept — just a marketing stunt? Either way the track sure got Avril a helluva lot of ink, I’ll tell you that much.
And it inspired the metalsphere too: we received two metal covers of the song over the weekend, and they’re… well, on the plus side, they’re a lot better than the original. On the minus side, we have to stare at metal dudes the whole time instead of the annoying-but-definitely-smashable Avril Lavigne.
I dig this first black metal cover by Woods of Trees (lol) — they’ve taken some creative licenses with the lyrics (“Let’s be frienz forever, then kill Varg together”) and clearly put a lot of effort into the arrangement. The second one’s not quite as impressive and isn’t really black metal (symphonic keyboards, though), but still, A for effort.
