Did Muslipknoomhead Rip-Off Slipmushrooknot?
Today in online silliness: Mushroom have just released the below band photo to promote their new album, There’s a New Mushroomhead Album?…
…and some peeps in the comments below said photo noticed that it sure does look a lot like this promo pic of Slipknot, taken for their 2008 album, All Hope is Gone:
So, the smart move here would probably be for Mushroomhead to ignore these comparisons, right? But the dudes in Mushroomhead don’t make smart moves (we know that because they’re in Mushroomhead). Consequently, they have released the following responses:
Which is a crock. I know the Slipknot/Mushroomhead comparisons have been going on for years and are pretty played-out by now (and also, Slipknot clearly won), but the similarities don’t end at “9 guys in masks in a creepy setting” and the fact that the pic is “colored to be greenish”:
- Although it’s more exaggerated in the ‘Knot photo, the ‘Shroom image was also created with a fisheye lens.
- Most of the members of Mushroomhead used to wear identical masks which made it very difficult to tell them apart. But now they seem to have at least semi-unique designs (which always should have been the case anyway).
- Furthermore, Dreadlocked Guy in Mushroomhead now wears a mask which looks almost EXACTLY like the one Mick Thomson from Slipknot wears.
- The settings aren’t just both creepy — they’re both nearly identical! Mushroomhead could have taken their photo in any number of other clichéd metal band pic settings (e.g., the woods) and maintained the creepy vibe… but they’re in another room with water stains on the walls, a chunk of the ceiling missing to reveal the floorboards above, etc.
So, y’know. Just cut the shit, Mushroomhead. You’re not exactly going out of your way to play down the “negative comparisons.”
