Perform an Autopsy on “The Howling Dead”
I’ve listened to the new Autopsy song, “The Howling Dead,” twice now, and it is with a heavy heart that I report that the track does nothing for me. Noisey, who premiered the tune, emphasize that “Autopsy is a relatively simple band compared to most who claim the ‘death metal’ tag nowadays,” which is all well and good… but there’s simple, and there’s boring. And this song really doesn’t go anywhere. Mostly, it just makes me wanna listen to Triptykon’s Melana Chasmata for the billionth time this month — now that’s an album which is “simple” but also just, like, a total fucking wrecking ball.
Check out “The Howling Dead” here. Hopefully you’ll dig it more than I do. Autopsy’s new album, Tourniquets, Hacksaws, and Graves comes out via Peaceville on April 21 in Europe and April 29 in ‘Merica. Despite not digging this track, I’m still optimistic about the rest of the record, because, well, Autopsy is usually pretty kick-ass!
